About Slackware:
Altough not as popular nowadays, Slackware is one of the oldest still active Linux distributions.
Slackware focuses on ease of use and stability as its two main goals, which is why it is not updated as often as other distros. It aims to include the latest popular software but maintaining a sense of tradition for those who prefer a more old-school system.
Its development started in 1991 and it is still being actively maintained. Slackware is meant for general use, both as a server and as a desktop machine, which is why beside the more common office suite programs it also features a wide array of development tools, editors and libraries.
