About Ubuntu:

Ubuntu is a Debian based, begginner friendly Linux distribution. It is one of, if not the most popular Linux distributions to date and many popular distros like Linux Mint, Zorin OS, Pop Os or Elementary OS are based on it.

Altough Ubuntu is best used on a desktop machine Canonical, the company that owns the Ubuntu OS offers a free Ubuntu server alternative.

Because Ubuntu only really features the GNOME dekstop many there are several distributions based on Ubuntu just with a different desktop Environment such as Kubuntu featuring KDE Plasma, Xubuntu featuring Xfce or Lubuntu featuring LXDE.

Many people do not like the trajectory that Canonical is taking regarding Ubuntu but it still remains a highly popular distribution that many new users and Linux veterans alike continue to enjoy.
